Saturday - Another Week Gone By

Oh jeez!  Another week just flew right by did it not?  I can't believe it has been almost a whole week since I posted yet again.  I have a feeling that the next two weeks are going to be similar.  I work tomorrow, three days next week, and four days the week after that!  Oh my, what on earth was I thinking?  Or maybe I wasn't thinking at all!!!

MONDAY:  Well, congratulate me cause on Monday it was my 9th Wedding Anniversary!  David surprised me.  We went outside to get in the car and he had a limo waiting.  Stephanie's boyfriend, Tony, works for a limo company and he drove us around in a stretch Hummer.  First we ran up to the grocery store with the kids and Lindsi to get some champagne.  Then we dropped them back off and went to dinner at ZTejas.  After dinner we went to Fort McDowell Casino.  I walked in, put $25 in the slot machine and w/in 10 minutes won $242!  I wanted to leave right then, but David was like "no, I didn't come in here to win only $200". Whatever.  Well I ended up losing like $100 then I got it back up to $208 and I said "Now I'm quitting".  And we did!  We gave Tony $100 of my winnings and I'll just have to see what I do with the rest.

TUESDAY:  Oh just work.  It was in charge so I earned another extra $9, ha ha.  It wasn't too bad.  I put myself in triage so I could run back/forth and be free to help out when needed.  We had a good crew, so a pretty smooth night.

WEDNESDAY:  I slept about 1 1/2 hours and got up and to get my hair done.  Oh the sacrifices we make for beauty, lol.  It was really funny because I calculated that I would have just enough time to jump in the shower, pick Caleb up from school, run to McDonald's, back home, and to the salon.  I totally forgot about needing to put on makeup so when we got there and I looked in the mirror, I told Maren "OMG!  I forgot to put on makeup.  Will you just not look at me and pretend you don't notice?"  She just laughed and said "I have to look at you to cut your hair."  Oh details!  After that, Hannah and I ran over to Starbucks and I was driving back to the house house and started feeling a little woozy.  I said, "Hannah, I forgot to eat before getting my hair done!".  "Mom, you ate a hamburger from McDonalds, remember?"  Oh, yeah.  We are just going to chalk that one up to sleep deprivation.  The rest of the day is a blur, but I think I hung out with my family and fell asleep somewhere around 1:00am until 2:00pm on Thursday afternoon.  Somebody was tired!

THURSDAY: Work again, but at least I wasn't in charge.  I wasout in triage again, but I was tired and didn't really care.  Another good night, but I swear, stupid people came in all night long.  I just kept wanting to ask "where is your sign?"  Then this poor young thing comes into the ER around 4:00am with a complaint of tummy pain.  I asked all the questions and get to the last one "have you ever had any surgeries in your lifetime?" and I could tell she was having a hard time answering the question before she finally said "No".  Now I really wanted to help her out because it was very obvious she'd had an enhancement surgery to the tune of American Idol's Kelli Pickler, and I just wanted to ask her if she had bought any new shoes lately.  I did contain myself, but just barely!

Before............................................................................After

  Kellie Pickler boob job

FRIDAY:  Hmmmmm...oh yeah, lol, I got the boy from school, hung out for a bit, talked to Bee on the phone and then David and I went up to Dream Dinners for "date night".  It was cool.  They had a singer and wine tasting.  The wine tasting was the funnest part.  After that I came home and yelled at the kiddos because they were supposed to be finding all the Blockbuster movies during the 2 hours I was gone and it took us another 2 hours to find them all, ugh.  After I had mellowed a bit, we drove up to Blockbuster and picked out movies and games for all.  After we got home, I just chilled with the boy until he fell asleep.

Now I'm just doing laundry, writing in my journal (duh), and listening to music.  I work tonight so have a good one, and I'll catch up when I can!

Ciao!  De ;)

Sunday - And I Survived

Well, I am sure you are all wondering if I survived Caleb's birthday party or not.  And if your not wondering, I'm going to tell you anyway, ha ha.  And yes, I did survive.  Only because I had the bestest party hostess ever!  This little girl worked her butt off.  She did everything, and I mean everything.  I hardly had to life my little finger, and if I did she said "oh let me do that".  Oh, twist my arm why don't ya, lol.  That girl earned a much appreciated $20 tip.

Oh I hate planning and anything to do with parties!  I stress out about it soooo much!  But you are right, they all had a blast.  The one little girl that came was Brighton.  She was so cute and quite.  Caleb wanted Annie to come but she couldn't.  But they all had a blast!

Oh and apparently I over-estimated the kids coming or some of the ones who said they were couldn't at the last minute so I had extra pizza and drinks.  Well, my friend Kathy ran short of drinks and pizza cause she had extra kids show up for Preston's party, so I said "tell your kids to help themselves to my table".  They did and I almost had nothing left over.  Then Hannah went "what?  no chocolate cake?"  I had gotten marble.  So I said "Preston has chocolate cake, go ask Kathy if you can have a piece."  Hannah came back with this huuugge piece of chocolate cake and looked very happy.
This is the best picture I've got (from my cell phone) cause like the dummy I am I forgot my camera.  But then who among you is surprised?  I didn't remember it for Sedona either.

Speaking of Sedona, here are a few pictures off David's camera.  I need to download some more and we don't have the disposable cameras developed yet...

   Nicholas Cage's new house (supposedly)
  Caleb & Hannah
 Sedona
 Kids Hiking
 Indian Ruins
 Montezuma's Castle
 Oh...it's just me.

Oh, I can't believe I haven't told you guys this, but my sister Kathryn has had her surgery and is home recuperating very well.  She says "it only hurts when I move".  So, don't move I tell her.  Yeah, right.  But seriously, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for their prayers and well wishes, and keep them coming for Kathryn's continued recovery.

Well, I am going to pop off here and try to be productive.  I did cook dinner again tonight.  We had Greek Chicken with Lemon Parsley Penne Pasta, Steamed Broccoli & Carrots, Green Bean Veggie Mix, and "Somegetti" for the boy.  Yum!  Course plenty of birthday cake for dessert.  I hear the washer and dryer calling my name.

Oh, here is some going to sleep music I snagged from Julie.  Sweet dreams!

Friday Morning - Catch Up

Wow!  Have I really not done a journal entry in like a week?  I do have some catching up to do on my comments and journal reading.  I have no idea what I have been doing!  Oh yeah, I worked Saturday (St Paddy's), Monday, and Tuesday.  Did I miss Sunday and Wednesday?  Thursday we went and got Hannah's hair done (more on that later).  Now I'm just doing some housework and about to head off to bed, but first, I thought I'd pop in and say "hey".

Saturday:  St Patrick's Day and my prediction came true.  Too many drunks to count.  I mean seriously, can anyone tell me what the big freakin deal is about St Patrick's Day that you've got to go out and drink yourself stupid?  Let me give you some numbers so you can tell just how fun my night was.  In a 24 hours period we saw 90 patients in the ER.  From 7pm-5am we saw 73 patients.  Now do your math.  We saw 81% of the total ER visits in 10 hours!!!  Oh, and did I mention that I was in charge?  I tried to go on diversion for about an hour so we would quit getting ambulances and be able to at least breath (forget about peeing), but administration said no.  You know, don't ya just wanna say "then why don't you crawl your ass out of bed and get in here and help"? Boy did I earn my extra 75cents an hour that night I tell ya.  Yeah, I don't know where I'm going to spend my $9 first.  Any suggestions?

Sunday:  Hung out and recouperated.  I couldn't sleep cause I was so wound up, plus I had hurt my back (standard nursing injury) because I was so busy that I didn't get my patient's full history and had no idea she couldn't stand on her own.  So when I stood her to get to the bedside commode I discovered this nifty little bit of information.  Did I mention she was a full 100lbs heavier than me?  Oh geez!  I think I cooked dinner.  Oh I did!  It was good too.  It was Coconut Parmesean Crusted Chicken Breast, Brown Rice (for the boy), Noodles (for the rest of us), and Green Beans.  Yum!

Trade and Play Card Collection Monday:  Work was much better.  I was in triage and then helped out in the back when I could.  I actually was able to sit down and eat my lunch.  From start to finish without having to get up.  20minutes of sitting down and eating.  Somebody call Guinness, lol.

Tuesday: At work and in charge, again.  Another fun $9 extra for the shift.  We were busy, but it was more manageable.  I know I breathed, I think I peed, but I didn't eat a darn thing except a bite sized snickers.  Hmmmm...do you think that was nutritional?  Doesn't matter, it gave me some quick energy!  And it would turn out I needed that energy because I had to have a patient arrested.  And of course my name is on the complaint and I will have to be the one to testify.  I will too, because you just can't come into the ER, walk into the Nursing/Doctor station (considered a secure area), yell, threaten, cuss at us, tear up the room, and not expect some sort of reprecussions.  At least not in my ER!  You know, I could have gotten over the fact that this person did the yelling and all, but the straw was when I went into the room about 1-2 minutes later and it was totally torn up with betadine and blood all over the walls.  That was when I said "You know, now I've had enough of you.  Now you are going to jail."  I called the police and they agreed.  One charge of disorderally conduct coming up (it would have been destruction of property too but I convinced the police that we would most probably be able to clean up the room and there was no permanent damage to any equipment).  This patient really got off easy, because you and I both know that if she hadacted like this on an airplane she'd be sitting in a federal jail, so why can't we have the same sort of rules in the ER?

Wednesday:  Another day of not being able to sleep well.  It's kinda of hard to unwind when you've been wound up for over 12 hours.  Then I had to get Caleb from school as it was early release day.  But I did end of being semi productive.  I cooked again.  This time was Stroganoff with Meatballs, Steamed Broccoli and Carrots, and fresh Strawberries.  Double Yum!

Thursday:  As mentioned above, we got Hannah's hair done today.  Hannah wanted blue in her hair.  Yes...I did say blue.

Well, okay.  I know we said "blue", but they didn't really have just a blue as for some reason they don't get a lot of requests for that color.  I wonder why, lol.  At any rate, it is a "blue/black".  It has a hue of blue in it which will show up more once it fades.  I had Hannah pull up her hair in a clip so you could see the color.  It is dark underneath and islayered in the back so you can see.  She is absolutely thrilled, and I don't think her Dad will totally freak out about this as much as he would if she was doing something more dramatic.  KWIM?  At any rate, it was fun, and I agree with the experimenting part, as long as it isn't sex or drugs who cares, right?  But now that Hannah has her hair done, she is feeling guilty about it.  She's like "I feel like I deliberately disobeyed my Dad."  Well, geez, you could've thought of that before we spent $120!  Too late now.  And it's permanent and would cost $100 to strip the color and bleach it back blonde and that would totally ruin her hair.  So get over it I say.  I did tell Hannah that I did not take her to get her hair done strictly because her Dad didn't want her to.  I did do it because I don't see anything wrong with it.  And Maren (hairdresser) is so conservative she kept it pretty low key.  The color is on the underneath hair, not right out in your face.  It looks nice and trendy, not trashy, and I told Hannah that.  But she went to bed feeling bad.  So, I told her to fess up to her Dad and tell him.  We'll see what happens.

Friday:  I guess I had better get off my behind today because on Saturday is Caleb's 7th birthday?  Oh my...where did my baby go?  And we are having a Chuck E Cheese party.  Yeah me, not!  Ha ha!  But seriously, geez!  I've got to order a cake!!!  I better take the boy to Walmart or Basha's tomorrow and get one ordered.  We are having a "Chuck E Cheese" cake there, but...you know those things are yuck!  So far I've got 7 boys and 1 girl coming from Caleb's class that I know of.  Then Deonte (Stephanie's boyfriend's son) is coming.  And Preston, Caleb's friend from kindergarten, will be there at the same time having his birthday party.  His mom, Kathy, andI arranged it that way.  I think it will be fun, heavy on the "i think" part, lol.  You know, I have no idea if they still serve wine or beer at Chuck's, but I will definitely have to check that one out.  That would so help me handle it.  I am no good at social events when I'm supposed to be in charge.  Totally stresses me out (yes I can handle a code blue just fine, but not a million screaming kiddos).  Oh I know that Chuck is hosting the party, but you know I will have to keep track of these kids.  I hear a valium or ativan calling my name, lol.  Oh I hope we have enough tokens (i did the "deluxe party").  If not, I'm splurging for extra!  But at age 7 I am glad I'm not having to worry about him wanting to go to strip clubs, unless Chuck does a Full Monty on me!

Saturday - St Patrick's Day

Well, in case you can't tell, we are back from our trip.  We went to Sedona, AZ.  It was soooo pretty up there, but guess who forgot their camera?  Geez!  David brought his and then we bought desposibles.  So I will have to download David's onto my computer and scan the others once they are developed.  I do believe David took them to Walmart last night.

Wednesday:  We didn't leave until about 7:00pm and then stopped at Subway on the way out of town.  So we got on the highway at about 7:30pm and pulled into the hotel at 9:30pm.  Not too bad considering that was construction and a lot of traffic on the highway into Sedona.  We had to scope out a Walmart once we got there because when we were about 20miles outside of Sedona we discovered that Caleb's suitcase didn't make it into the truck.  I did a general announcement about 10minutes before we left and said "everybody get their suitcases, pillows and blankets by the front door because we are about to load up."  Well Caleb got his backpack full of toys, but forgot his clothes.  At least he got what was important, huh?  At any rate, the boy got three days worth of a new wardrobe.  Yeah for Walmart is all I can say!

Thursday:  The next morning David got up early and went mountain biking.  Once he got back we went hiking for about 2 miles on this trail behind our hotel.  It was so pretty!  Of course Caleb kept whining the whole darn way and I called him a wheeny while all the time I'm huffing and puffing.  I said "here is where I have my chest pain and die of a sudden heart attack".  David said "You're not really having chest pain are you?"  "No...do I look like I'm fixing to have a stroke or something?"  "No...just checking".  I found out just how out of shape I am on this trip, omgosh, let me tell you!  After that we got some lunch and headed out to some Indian ruins.  Pretty cool.  We only got to see one of them because the other site closed at 3:30pm and we hit it about 4:00pm.  Then we all went back to the hotel and recovered and went to dinner at 7:45.  We decided on Mexican and this restaurant sounded good.  I don't know why places have to do this, but when we ordered stuff with chicken in it you could tell they mixed tuna in with the chicken.  They do this to save money and it is gross.  Needless to say hardly anyone ate much.  On the other hand, their margauritas were killer! ;)  After dinner we had to go and get some sunscreen and aloe vera as David & Caleb got a little sunburned while hiking.  Hannah got a little pink, and I was okay.  I don't know why I didn't think about sunscreen, but I didn't.  After that we headed back to the hotel and just crashed.  I think we hiked about 4 miles total that day and that was the most I have exerted myself to that degree in forever.  I feel asleep like a baby!

Friday:  David got up early and went mountain biking again while we got up, and packed to check out of the hotel.  When David got back he jumped into the shower and we loaded up and headed out to Montezuma's Castle ruins.  Now this was not really Montezuma's (Aztec King), but named that by the people who discovered it.  It was this house built up on the cliffs by Indians.  It was really neat and I'll definitely have to show you once I get the pictures back.  We then headed back into Sedona for some more sight seeing and went up to this really cool church built on a cliff.  It is called "Chapel of the Holy Crossand you can see it for miles away.  It was so pretty inside and calming.  After the chapel, we went into town for some shopping and "lupper".  Once we did all that we drove home and got here about 8:30pm.  I had a migraine so I just went to bed.

It was so nice to get away, even if it was only for a couple of days.  We all needed the break.  We liked Sedona so much we plan on returning again, probably during the summer as it will be cooler there.  There was a heat wave up in Sedona while we were there, of course, and it was in the mid-upper 80s depending on where we were.  So much for getting away to cooler weather, ha ha.

Saturday:  So I'm up today around 2:00pm.  Gotta work (oy).  Gotta iron my St Patrick's scrub top.  I hope there aren't too many parties out there cause I'm so not in the mood for drunks tonight, but I think I'm sunk, lol.  It is about 95degrees right now at 4:30pm.  We are supposed to have a cool front Tuesday night, I think, and it will get get into the upper 60s for highs on Wed/Thurs.

Ciao and enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I'll catch up with you later.

Wednesday - I've Been Redeemed

Well I did get a chance to speak to my sister, Kathryn, before her surgery.  Poor thing, she was so nervous she could hardly concentrate and got off the phone pretty quickly.  I told her to ask for Valium and Versed.  One to help her relax, and the other to help her forget.  Sounded like a great cocktail to me!

Red Rose Bouquet with VaseI woke up and spoke to my Mom around 9:45am (11:45CST) and was getting text messages before that.  Kathryn's surgery went very, very well.  The initial results of the pathology was that it is a benign endometrial tumor as suspected, but they will be doing more tests to rule out any malignant areas.  But as far as worst case scenerios they were giving Kathryn, she had maximum results with minimal complications.  So, all in all, a very good outcome.  I was up a while after I talked to my Mom and sent Kathryn some flowers, a Teddy bear, and a balloon.  I talked to Mom later on said the gifts got there and the flowers were beautiful.  Mom also said Kathryn just held out her arms for the Teddy bear and wouldn't let it go, lol.  So I guess I've been redeemed!  I don't quite know how long Kathryn will be in the hospital, but she will have her "Angel of Health" waiting for her when she gets there.

Converse Men's All Star HiSo, now that I know that Kathryn is all settled in, the family headed off to the outlet mall for a little shopping.  We all needed shoes, and shoes we all got.  Even miss picky Hannah found what she was looking for, the exact pair of Converse.

With shopping done for the evening, we tooled around the house and will be heading out of town later on for a couple of day of R&R as it is Spring Break here.  What I absolutely love about living in Arizona is that we don't have to venture very far for a different scenery and climate.  So, I guess I'll pack it up here and catch up with you guys later and let you know how our little escape went.  In the meantime...

Early Tuesday - I'm A Horrible Sister

This entry is dedicated to my sister, Kathryn.  I've told you before that she has to have major surgery, and this morning is the day.  Kathryn is supposed to report to the hospital in Shreveport, LA at 0530 and surgery is scheduled for 0730.  And I forgot to call her tonight.  Can you believe that?  I was concentrating so much on doing something for the kids cause I had been sick and it's Spring Break and all, that I forgot to call my own sister the night before she has major surgery.  And I'm not even there. What kind of horrible sister is that?

Actually, truth be told, I didn't totally forget.  I remembered at 9:30pm MST and it was 11:30pm CDT (damn daylight saving time).  Kathryn is a early sleeper, always has been ever since she was born.  "Grandma" I call her.  Can't be up much past 9:30pm or 10:00pm.  Me?  I can stay up until the sun rises, which is why I work the night shift I suppose.  So, I didn't call.  I was really upset until David said, "You know you'll be up when she has to be at the hospital.  Call her then."  Okay.  Right.  2hours ahead now.  I'll call her at 3:00 or 3:30am.  Thank you Lord for the time change, but I think I would be up anyways.

Here is a prayer sent your way Kathryn.  Get a good night's sleep, and rest easy knowing that the Angels are surrounding you (did you bring the Angel I sent you?).  When you wake up everything will be fine, and I will call you.

Love, your favorite sister! Nana ;)

From Betty:  The Lord is in control, and I pray Kathryn has complete healing and the tumor is benign. I also pray for wisdom and compassion for the surgeons and nurses and all involved in her care from the minute she walks into the hospital until the minute she is discharged and continuously through her treatment. And I pray for the Lord's peace that surpasses understanding to be on Kathryn. Jesus, please watch out for Kathryn. She needs Yahweh Rophe, the Lord who heals, in her life, Lord. You are the Lord, the God of all mankind. There is nothing too hard for you. So we ask Lord that you watch over Kathryn and completely heal her of this tumor. In your precious name, we pray. Amen.

Monday - And my mind's a blank

It's early Monday morning and I can't sleep.  But let's face it, I'm usually up at this time of the night anyways.  But everyone else is sleeping....

Oh man...I almost forgot.  The lastest edition of CarnivAOL is out and Annie is the guest host.  Go pay a visit.

So I noticed I haven't posted an entry in a few days.  About the only thing of interest and excitement is HANNAH'S HOME! (and she is hogging my computer again)  Poor thing, though, Momma is not feeling good. As a matter of fact, Momma feels like crap.  Oh you don't wanna hear my problems though, so instead of complaining and boring you all, I think I'll just post a copy of my entries to Patrick's Weekender...have fun and participate yourself.

Sunday Seven - Episode 80

I've made this invitation before, but never quite like this! In a few weeks, you'll see the reason I'm asking. So get ready to put on your meme-writer hats! But first, though Jude of My Way was first to play last week! Congratulations, Jude!On to this week's question!

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:Name seven questions you would ask if you were writing an upcoming edition of the Saturday Six. Don't answer the questions: just leave the questions themselves.

1. Do you consider yourself political?

2. Do you only vote in the Presidential election, or try to vote in every election you can including state and municipal issues?

3. How do you feel about the candidates who have declared themselves so far for the 2008 election?

4. Do you think we could ever have a woman or African-American as President?

5. Do you vote according to your party lines, or for who or what you consider the best candidate or decision?

6. Take this quiz: Politics Test...

7. How surprised were you by your result?

Saturday Six - Episode 152

Sorry for posting these later than usual...I was tied up all day on a project and had to upgrade some software to boot. It was a crazy day...which helped inspire the theme of this week's set of questions.Last week, it was Donna of "Just Me" who was the first one to post the link to her post in which she answered the questions, so she was last week's "first to play." Donna also managed to beat Nichole of "My Two Cents," who was in line to break the all-time record and become first to be "first to play" for four weeks running! Donna's already 25% of the way to setting the record herself: will she do it?

Here are this week's "Saturday Six" questions. Either answer the questions in a comment here, or put the answers in an entry on your journal...but either way, leave a link to your journal so that everyone else can visit! To be counted as "first to play," you must be the first player to either answer the questions in a comment or to provide a complete link to the specific entry in your journal in which you answer the questions. A link to your journal in general cannot count. Enjoy!

1. What's the craziest thing you can imagine yourself actually doing? Flying. I hate flying.

2. What sport or pastime do you think someone would almost have to be crazy to attempt? Bungie jumping or sky diving.

3. How likely would you be to do that? No way in hell!

4. Take the quiz: How insane are you?

How insane are you

20% insane

you are completely normal

Click Here to Take This Quiz
Brought to you by YouThink.com quizzes and personality tests.

5. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most stupid, how stupid would you rate that quiz? 9.5

6. What do you really use your computer for? Email, blogging, banking, projects, and looking up everything known to man.

Early Wednesday

Well I do feel as though I might be a total blob today.  Get on the scale, yep, that confirms it, lol.  Seriously though, I really haven't done too much.  I did get off early as anticipated last night and was home by 11:45pm.  Lindsi and I chatted for a bit and then I parked my big ole fat but in my chair and read emails, journals, and basically perused the internet.  Up to no good, I was.  The only consolation was that I was relatively busy while I was at work so at least I wasn't totally worthless.

I did get my feelings hurt when I went to work last night and everyone was dressed in black except me.  I said "oh well I guess I missed the 'wear black scrubs memo'".  Only one person said anything like "I'll put you in my cell phone so you know the next time we do this".  I was like "whatever.  Now I know I'm really not in the little group."  I tried to blow it off cause I've been working with these people for over a year.  In the end, I had to let it go.  But it still hurt my feelings even though it was petty.

I ended up staying up all night after I got home and getting the boy to school.  Caleb was all excited I was home.  I had told him I was going to be but I guess he didn't believe it until this morning.  He talked nonstop after getting out of the shower.  Sweetheart.  David got home shortly after I got Caleb off to school, we chatted, ate breakfast and then I went to bed.  I slept so good for a change.  I guess I was really tired from only sleeping 4 1/2 hours the day before.

Okay, trying to diet again.  Started Sunday.  Weight on Sunday 121.4.  Today 120.0.  We'll see how successful I am this time.  It seems that i will lose a few pounds and then go right back to it.  Ugh.  I hate getting old.

My friend J is feeling better from her face lift.  I think I might check that one out.  David said that medical expenses were tax deductible.  I think I would be willing to help maximize our deductions for 2007.  Oh, I'm just dreaming.  I'd get a butt-ectomy before I'd do a face lift.  Now if my butt looked like Jessica Biel or J Lo I wouldn't mind, but unfortunately...well I won't be descriptive so as not to make you have nightmares, lol.  Just know that I have been asked "what is a white girl like you doing with a ghetto booty?"  Nuff said.

I do work today and Thursday.  Hope everyone is doing okay.
Have a great day!

De ;)
