It's just Wednesday

Boy have I been running around the last couple of days.  I went to nursing orientation yesterday and it wasn't so bad.  Just about 3 1/2 hours worth.  Then I went to human resources (HR) because I was like...I don't have a badge to clock in, how are they gonna pay me (the most important issue, right?), what about computer access, etc.  So man, did I create a lot more work for myself, ha ha.  I was given a stack of papers to fill out the height of the empire state building (or so it seemed) and told to be back in 2hours for my drug screen (yea).  So, because my director thought they could use the drug screen I did when I signed my contract a few months back she hadn't worried about this issue.  Wrong, say HR.  Doesn't matter.  Now I'm a hospital employee and have to do everything all over again (double yea).  So that means they had to take me off the schedule for tonight (oh darn).  My results should be back in the morning and I should be able to work tomorrow night.  That's fine by me cause I'm so freakin tired if it wasn't for caffeine (thank you God) I wouldn't be walking and talking right now, ha ha.  See I'm in such a night shift rut that I couldn't sleep Monday night and only managed 2 1/2 hours before having to get ready for orientation at 8:00, which mad going to Starbucks a necessary.

Today I had to be at work at 2:30 for the rest of my pre-employment "physical" and then a staff meeting.  That was the lamest physical I've ever had, it was so funny.  The employee health nurse administered my TB test, took my blood pressure, and then had me do some stretching exercises.  I had to reach up several times like I was grabbing stuff over my head (ha, every day event for me so I'm good at that one), then I had to do some twisting, and then touch my toes.  Good thing I wasn't too stiff, lol.  All I have left is to bring in a copy of my varisella (chicken pox) titer.

The staff meeting was interesting.  We are going to all computerized charting next week, yikes!  But I was thinking about that it shouldn't be too hard because it is the same system, just expanded to where the nursing notes are all on the computer.  It will mostly be charting by exception, which means we just click and check off certain.  There will be the option of narrative notes as well.  The doctors will still be doing hand charts for now then they will switch over in a few more months, too. I guess we get to be the guinea pigs and work out the bugs for them, ha ha.  But I can imagine that next Wednesday will be fun.  Yipee!

So I guess you know we went trick or treating last night.  The kids were so cute.  Hannah and I were talking about our old neighborhood in OK and about one neighbor's house.  They always had it real spooky and a lot of the little kids wouldn't even go up to the door.  That was too much if you ask me.  Halloween should be fun for the little ones, not scary.  There is enough scary stuff out there as it is.  They could go to a haunted house for that kind of stuff.  But at any rate, at least it wasn't cold like it typically is in OK at Halloween.   David went out first with kids and I stayed home and handed out candy to the whole 7 kids that came up in the 45minutes they were gone.  Then Hannah & I went out to one street over where there were lots of houses and kids walking up and down.  We met some nice people and the little kids that were out were so cute!  I think I said we usually end up doing a few house and going to the church fall carnival, but we missed that this year as the kids wanted to go to the martial arts party instead.  Didn't matter much to me as long as they had fun.  That is what Halloween is about here, just having some good clean fun.  The neat thing about where we lived in OK was that they always had Halloween on the Saturday night before, regardless of where it actually fell on the calendar.  That way kids were out on a school night.

I took the kids to Blockbuster and then I whipped up something for dinner (yes I know I've already cooked this week, lol...I'm working on my personal record).  Caleb is actually going to school tomorrow since he is no longer coughing up a lung, and I think this is his 4th night of antibiotics.  Yea!  So hopefully this week just gets better.

Hope the same for you guys! :)
