The History of Halloween

No...I'm not up early.  I'm still up.  David & I are supposed to drop my car off for repairs and it is easier for me to stay up than to get up.

But anyways, I was talking with my friend Tara the other night and the discussion of Halloween came up.  She said that they don't observe or participate in Halloween.  Now I've run across this before, and I really don't see the problem in it, but I do respect other people's beliefs.  I just think that maybe a little education as to the history of the celebration of All Hallows Eve might be in order.  With churches getting into the picture these days and offering "carnivals", I believe that the negativity that has been associated with this holiday is hopefully achieving a more positive slant.

Go to this link at the History Channel for a brief but informative history, and tell me what you think about this holiday.  Do you and your family celebrate Halloween?

We certainly do and got a little bit of a head start the other day.  Check out my boy.

That link to the History Channel was great; De. Very concise and informative; thanks.

We have gone back and forth on the Halloween issue. Some years we've done things; other years nothing. Now that the kids are older, I'm thankful its not so much of a problem anymore to decide what to do. Our church does a tail gating party type thing where kids can come down, cars are in the parking lot and they can go from car to car to get treats. There's also a stand where they can get free baked treats like cookies, cupcakes, brownies.

We've trick or treated in the past some years; other years we haven't.

I like parts of Halloween; its fun to dress up and decorate and carve pumpkins.

your little one is cute! Hope he has a fun night :)

Um.... would you call setting up a "cemetary" in our front yard, fake blood dripping down the windows (the sticky window gels), an "arm" hanging out of the garage door, pumpkins, witches, a talking rat, and spiderwebs celebrating? lol

^_^ My favorite holiday lol (Would be Christmas but our family always has some kind of fight then lol)

This is a great entry, and thanks for the History Channel link.  We ALWAYS celebrate Halloween; it's one of my favorite holidays.  To see the little ones in costume trick or treating...I love that!  I know not everyone shares my delight in this holiday, and I had a neighbor once who told me Dr. Seuss was satanic! Whoa...I LOVE Dr. Seuss, too...anyway, I'm always happy to hear about others enjoying Halloween as I do, and your little guy is so cute all dressed up!  Happy Halloween!

wonderful article, thanks for the link.
We do the Halloween thing now more to give out treats. I'm way too old for trick or treating and with no children in the house there is no excuse to go out. :)

Some years there is a party or two I go to in full costume, but the last two years have been hectic. I haven't been doing much in the way of decorating, mostly because I can't find any of it! I will be very glad when the house is back in order from the construction.

have a Happy and safe Halloween!
